Florida is home to several species of sea turtles, including loggerheads, green sea turtles, and leatherbacks. Every year, they return to Florida’s beaches to nest, often traveling thousands of miles to lay eggs near the same shores where they were born.

Sea turtles play an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, especially seagrass beds and coral reefs. Despite spending most of their lives in the ocean, female sea turtles come ashore during nesting season, usually at night, to carefully bury their eggs in the sand before returning to the water.

There’s something timeless and peaceful about them—their slow, graceful movement and deep connection to the ocean always feels grounding. Living near Florida’s coast and waterways has made sea turtles feel like such a meaningful part of the landscape, and they continue to inspire so much of the coastal influence in my work.
